The helicopter carrying the Minister of Foreign Affairs made two unsuccessful attempts to land and finally the mission landed at the Monastery of Megistis Lavra
The foreign minister’s visit began with an adventure, Nikos Dendias on Mount Athos.
Due to dense fog, the helicopter that transported him did not manage to land at the helipad of Karia, nor at that of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi and finally landed at the Holy Monastery Great Lavra.
The two-day visit of Nikos Dendias is the first visit of a Greek foreign minister to Mount Athos since 2011, it is underlined in a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
After 12.30 the Holy Community of Mount Athos will welcome the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Holy Church of Protatos, where a Doxology will be held. Afterwards, a reception and an extraordinary session of the Holy Community will take place, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
This will be followed by a visit by Nikos Dendias to the administration building of Mount Athos, as well as his visit to Pantokratoros and Xenophontos monasteries.
Tomorrow, Thursday, December 29, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will visit the Dionysios and Dochiario monasteries.
