They delivered 20 tons of waste to a hauler, who attempted to illegally dump it in a defunct sewer well
A case for violation of the Environmental Protection Law was filed against two people, aged 43 and 72, as part of an ongoing police investigation into environmental pollution.
According to the police, the two men, as co-managers of a company, delivered last May an amount of approximately 20 tons of cheese milk waste, without legal documents, to a transporter, who attempted to illegally dispose of it in a well of an inactive sewage pipeline of D.E.Y. A. Thermis that overflows into the river Anthemoundas and ends up in the Gulf of Thermaikos. However, at the last minute the rejection was prevented as both the carrier and his father, who was overseeing the site, were arrested.
This was followed, a few days later, by an environmental control – an inspection of the company that had delivered the whey waste to the tanker, which revealed the lack of documents for the delivery – transport of whey within the year 2021, resulting in uncontrolled management – disposal of more than 1,700 tons of cheese milk, which can become harmful to the environment (soil, water, biodiversity).
The relevant case file will be submitted to the competent Prosecutor.
