The father of the baby, to whom the 29-year-old was not married, lives in another house in the wider area.
The 29-year-old returned to her home in Stavros on New Year’s Day without the baby, prompting questions from her family, who were trying to figure out where she had left it. The grandfather initially addressed the Alexandria Security Service to report the infant’s disappearance, and then a coordinated police operation began to locate him.
The mother initially indicated to the Police that she had left the baby in an abandoned house in Veria, but after an investigation at the site nothing was found. The mother then recanted her claims, saying, late on New Year’s Eve, that she had thrown the baby into the Aliakmonas Dam.
After investigations by the Police at the scene, the baby was located and retrieved from the icy waters and transferred to the Veria Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Notably, according to his information so far veriotis.gr, the woman did not have a car and covered all the routes by public transport, on foot or even by taxi, but in general all these hours she is at the Imathia Police Department, when questioned by the Police about the incident, she denies herself, making it quite difficult to clarify the case .
The Police are investigating all possible versions of the way the 11-month-old girl died, while the results of the autopsy, which has been ordered, are awaited, in order to prove whether the death was due to drowning or if the baby died before falling into the water and how.
