A message clarifying the case of the death of the 16-year-old European champion in boxing, Vassilis Topalou, was sent by Lefteris Avgenakis. The 16-year-old European boxing champion was seriously injured during sparring matches on December 16 at a gym in Kallithea.

The unfortunate child had undergone head surgery and was hospitalized in critical condition in the intensive care unit, but could not take it and breathed his last today, January 2.

“The sports family of our country mourns the loss of the young boxing champion, Vasilis Topalos.

“Many question marks, but I am sure that the ongoing investigation will shed light on every aspect of the unclear circumstances of his fatal injury,” says the Deputy Minister.

Earlier, the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Boxing Federation (EOP) issued a resolution on the death of Vasilios Topalos.

The EEA states:

“Taking into account the high and flawless course of the brilliant athlete in Greece and in Europe, Vassilis Topalou decided:

A letter of condolence should be sent to his family.

Lay a wreath in his memory.

The funeral expenses of the deceased to be covered by the Hellenic Boxing Federation.

To establish a permanent, annual scholarship in his name and to offer it to a TEFAA student, to be chosen by the Hellenic Boxing Federation.

To organize an International Vassilios Topalos Boxing Tournament”.
