The society in Stavros Imathia remains shocked by the tragic death of the 11-month-old infant at the hands of his own mother. The tangle was unraveled after the interrogation of the mother, who allegedly she confessed that she threw her child to Aliakmons.
The little girl was buried in the utmost secrecy at noon on Monday, in the presence of only four people: the grandfather, the grandmother and two more relatives.
The child’s father, who had not recognized the child, with himself claiming that he made efforts for it, said that “he was an angel, happy… Whose heart does not ache..?”. He added that “when I went, I saw the child, he was well cared for, he was fed, I took him to the doctors… I tried the best for this child”.
He also pointed out that since the day the child was born, he had been trying to identify it. He added that he had also done a DNA test: “I was fighting for the identification of the child and nothing more. We didn’t get along, I don’t know the reasons why he didn’t want me to acknowledge it.”
For manslaughter of the mother – Apologizes on Wednesday
The child’s mother, who is reportedly suffering from psychological problems, asked for and was granted a deadline on Wednesday to plead guilty to the manslaughter charge, and will remain in custody until her plea.
However, she reportedly denies that she was the one who killed her child: “I did not kill my child, I was told that it ended. I don’t know what happened,” she said.
The chronicle of the tragedy
The 29-year-old allegedly left with her child on New Year’s Eve from the house where she lives with her parents in a village in Alexandria Imathia, while on New Year’s Day she returned home without the child.
Her family asked her where the child was but could not get answers, so they informed the authorities. According to the same information, after the persistent efforts of the authorities, she bent down and revealed to the police the place where, as she said, she left the baby, who, however, was unconscious when she was found.
Finally, the infant was taken to the Veria hospital where he was pronounced dead, with the forensic investigation showing that he died of suffocation in water, while at the same time, he also had animal bites, which allegedly occurred after he had expired.

“A local woman was arrested yesterday (January 1, 2023) in Imathia, by police officers of the Veria Security Department, for the crime of homicide.
In particular, the Alexandria Security Department was informed by relatives of the local woman that the previous day the woman left with her minor child (an infant aged about one year) from the house where they lived and the next day she returned home without the infant.
As part of the investigation of the case, police found the baby in the bed of the Aliakmonas river, where he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Competent echelons of the Criminal Investigations Office of the Imathia Police Department arrived at the scene and a forensic examination of the body was ordered.
The arrested person, with the case filed against her, was taken to the Prosecutor of Veria, who referred her to the Investigator of Veria.”
