The cost including VAT is 682 million euros – The duration of the project is just under 5 years
The tender was announced for the extension of Line 2 of the Metro to Ilion. This is a project of particular importance, which is expected to change the transport map of Lekanopedi with the estimated distance to Syntagma taking 20 minutes, while the route to Omonia takes about 15 minutes. It concerns the creation of a network of 4 km and an additional three stations.
As stated in the project announcement, the cost including VAT is 682 million euros (amount without VAT 550 million euros). The contracting authority of the project is Attiko Metro.
The duration of the project is a little less than 5 years, i.e. 57 months from the day of signing the contract. The expression of interest in the project is set for February 28, 2023 and the unsealing of the participation envelopes on March 6, 2023. According to the announcement, the expected number of participants is up to 7 schemes.
The competition will take place in two stages: the first stage is the pre-selection-invitation of expression of interest by submitting an application for participation. Stage B is the call for tenders and the assignment of the project. The scope of the contract includes the study and construction of three separate objects:
a) the extension of the Line to Ilion, approximately 4km long, with 3 new stations: PALATIANI, ILION, AGIOS NIKOLAOS, as well as the corresponding ventilation shafts as well as a Transfer Station
b) the expansion of the Eleonas Depot
c) the upgrade-replacement of existing E/M systems of lines 2 and 3 of the Athens Metro
The project has been included in the TPA INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORT of the national PDE (project number: 2022NA47100061) and is then scheduled to be included in the EP. “TRANSPORTS” of the new Programming Period “ESPA 2021-2027”.
The underground extension of the Line will start from Anthoupoli and will have a total length of 4km. It will feature three new stations:
– “PALATIANI” Contribution of Thebes and Cappadocia roads,
– “ILION” At the junction of Thebes and Elaion streets,
– “AGIOS NIKOLAOS” Contribution of Agios Nikolaos and Paramythia streets.
With the completion of the project, passenger traffic is estimated to reach a total of 51,000 passengers per day, while approximately 5,000 new jobs will be created.
