The Minister of Social Security, Carlos Lupi (PDT), said this Tuesday (3) that he wants to create a commission with representatives of employers’ unions, employees, retirees and the government to discuss what he called the “anti-reform” of the approved Social Security in the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Lupi took office in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Social Security.

President of the PDT, the new minister said he will rescue the dignity of retirement. “I want to form a quadripartite commission, with representation from employers’ unions, employee unions, retiree unions and the government. We need to discuss in depth what this ‘anti-reform’ of Social Security was”, he said.

“Discuss with light and in depth. We want all the collection constitutionally destined for Social Security to be in the Social Security balance sheet”, he added.

Lupi was confirmed for the command of the folder on December 29, when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) closed the design of the first echelon of his government.

In an interview with Sheet, Lupi criticized points of the pension reform formulated by the Jair Bolsonaro government and approved by Congress in 2019. He assessed that there were “absurdities” in the approved text, especially with regard to the minimum age for women to retire. Lupi defended flexibility according to the region of the country.

Before accepting Social Security, the PDT had been talking to the PT in recent days to try to negotiate a portfolio that could strengthen the party for the 2024 and 2026 elections.
