Also, in the evening hours yesterday, patrol boat L.S.-EL.AKT. spotted another high-speed boat moving at high speed, without navigation lights, towards the seaside area “PROFITI ZACHARIA” Kos, where it disembarked about twenty foreigners.
After disembarking, the speedboat developed a high speed, moving towards the opposite Turkish coasts, while the patrol boat LS-EL.AKT. he used light and sound signals to immobilize it, with negative results.
A chase ensued, with the speedboat operator making repeated attempts to ram the coastguard vessel.
The port craft’s crew fired warning shots, again with negative results, and then fired precision aimed shots at the outboard engines, in accordance with the rules of engagement, which brought the craft to a standstill. During the approach, the two occupants jumped into the sea, but were rounded up by the LS-EL.AKT officers. and were arrested, allegedly as traffickers.
In addition, officers of the Security Office located and arrested six of the disembarked foreigners on land, and then another thirty-seven people were located on a KTEL bus.
The Port Authority of Kos is conducting a preliminary investigation, while the two high-speed boats were seized.
