The little patient underwent therapeutic hypothermia (cooling) of the brain, in order to protect him from cerebral edema
The anxiety is at its peak for 6-year-old Thomas, who is hospitalized in Rio, in the Children’s ICU of the University Hospital of Patras, after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The child arrived in Rio yesterday from Grevena, hospitalized in the Children’s ICU of the University Hospital of Patras
The process of genetic testing has already begun, as is foreseen in these cases, in order to find out if there is a genetic background that caused the sudden stop.
At the same time, the 6-year-old patient underwent therapeutic hypothermia of the brain, in order to protect him from cerebral edema.
“We have another difficult 24 hours ahead of us and then his condition will be re-evaluated”, according to the head of the ICU, doctor Andreas Iliadis.
To ERT’s question, “if we know the cause of the suspension”, Mr. Iliadis answered that first everything should go well with the child’s health and if this happens – which we all hope – he will be able to undergo specialized tests tests (at Onassius) to investigate what caused the cardiac arrest.
