The reason for Afeela, which has to face tough competition in electric cars
“Alliance of Giants”. Japanese car and motorcycle maker Honda and Japanese electronics giant Sony are joining forces for a new electric vehicle (EV) brand that aspires to “shake up the waters”. The reason for Afeela, which has to face tough competition in electric cars.
Sony and Honda unveiled a new EV prototype called the Afeela during Sony’s CES presentation in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The brand will appear on the joint venture’s first production electric car, which will go on sale in North America in 2026.
Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yasuhide Mizuno said the car will leverage Sony’s expertise in artificial intelligence, entertainment, virtual reality and augmented reality to present a unique EV.
“Afeela represents our idea of an interactive relationship where people feel the sense of interactive mobility where mobility can detect and understand people and society using sensing and artificial intelligence technologies,” said Mizuno.
In fact, dozens of sensors, more than 40, including cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors and lidar, will be embedded throughout the vehicle’s exterior, enhancing its ability to detect objects and drive autonomously.
