Discover bars in São Paulo where vinyl records are the stars of the menu

by

The return of vinyl records to collectors’ shelves in the last 15 years and the extra shine that this industry gained more recently also led to the creation of bars that embrace this universe.

In São Paulo, the late Mandíbula, which was located at Galeria Metrópole and was still a dance floor, was one of the forerunners of this movement, but closed its doors in April 2020 because of the pandemic. Other spaces, however, have been created in recent years to cater for this audience.

Inaugurated in 2022, the Godê Annex is a successful example. DJs circulate there who take over the soundtrack and fill the house, as well as passionate collectors, who take their own records to play while sipping drinks and beers.

Check out, below, five spaces in São Paulo where you can drink drinks, buy LPs and listen to music.

Annex Godê

Vinyl music is the protagonist in the bar attached to the original Godê, opened in September, which has turntables open both for guest DJs and for the clientele, who on Wednesdays can take their collections to play. It’s not unusual over there that, between drinks and tasty snacks and pool games, people who don’t know each other exchange ideas about music and spy on other people’s records. The house also functions as a physical store for Noize Record Club —vinyl subscription club— which exhibits its records and holds releases and autograph sessions in the space.
Annex Godê – r. Counselor Nébias, 1517, Campos Elíseos. Wed. to Fri., from 5 pm to 11 pm. Sat., from 3 pm to 10 pm. Schedule and information on Instagram @anexo.gode

Fiel Discos

The mix of bar and shop works with dim lighting, comfortable furniture and an outstanding collection of vinyls —which are also sold online. The selection is diverse, and it is possible to find discs from the new band Silk Sonic and the classic Neil Young in the crates. DJs lead the music selection while customers sip authorial and classic drinks — there’s even Leonard Cohen (R$ 38), with vermouth, campari, tonic and Bahia orange, named after the composer of the song “Hallelujah”.
Fiel Discos – r. Barão de Tatuí, 223B, Vila Buarque. Wed. to Fri., from 5 pm to 11 pm. Sat., from 3 pm to 10 pm. Calendar and information on Instagram @fieldiscos

pink flamingo

The mix of record store, thrift store, bar and space for concerts is run by Tiê and musician André Whoong and is named after the label created by the singer. The atmosphere is intimate, with a feeling that everyone knows each other there. The duo sells and rents antique items and clothing, but the highlight is the vinyl collection of the most varied prices and styles — from the São Paulo avant-garde of Itamar Assumpção to the female k-pop of Blackpink. The space also takes on the form of a concert hall —and there it also sells food and drinks— and usually receives names from the independent scene, such as Sophia Chablau and Nina Maia.
Pink Flamingo – r. Ponta Porã, 708, Vila Ipojuca. Fri. to Sat., from 3 pm to 10 pm. Schedule and information on Instagram @rosaflamingo_discos

Secilians Shop

The busy space in a square in Santa Cecília also works virtually with buying and selling records. The collection is large and, on DJing days —always free— it is surrounded by customers listening to vinyl sets, digging around and enjoying the beers and drinks. It is common to find promotions for vinyl and drinks on the space’s Instagram.
Secilians Shop – pça. Olavo Bilac, 87, Santa Cecilia. Thu. to Mon., from 7 pm to 1 am. Schedule and information on Instagram @secilianshop

Conceição Records

It is one of the classic addresses for record fans in São Paulo. While chef Talitha Barros, who owns the space, does her best with recipes for her famous rice dishes, those who wait can check out the good selection of vinyls available for purchase.
Conceição Discos – r. Imac. Conceição, 151, Vila Buarque. To have. to Sat., from 12h to 17h. Last Sunday of every month, from 12:00 to 17:00. Information on Instagram @conceicaodiscos
