Tourism for all: Which regions were high in preferences

At the end of January, a new lottery will be held for 125,000 vouchers under the program – Positive forecasts for 2023, according to Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilia

The dynamics shown by tourism in Greece in 2022, as well as the positive forecasts for its further development in 2023, were underlined by the Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, in the context of a meeting he had with journalists. As he said, this is proven by all the official data, but also by the income brought by tourism, which significantly strengthened the national economy and local communities.

Another big bet, which the Ministry of Tourism has set is for Greece to be a popular destination in all months of the year. According to Mr. Kikiliathis goal is already being realized, as the extension of the tourist season has become a reality.

In fact, it is noteworthy that, in addition to the destinations that have always been a pole of attraction for tourists, alternative destinations and the non-island Region have now been strengthened. In this direction, the “Tourism for All” program has made a decisive contribution. At this point, it is recalled that, at the end of January, a new lottery will be held for 125,000 vouchers within the framework of the program. The Minister of Tourism also spoke about the critical projects that will be implemented in 2023, utilizing resources from all available financial tools, with the aim of an even greater tourism upgrade.

Which areas were found high in preference

According to the data of the Ministry of Tourism, the regions that were highly preferred by travelers are Central Macedonia, Peloponnese, Attica and Thessaly, while the greatest positive change in the winter months was recorded by Western Greece, Western Macedonia, Thessaly and the North Aegean. Among the destinations, large cities such as Thessaloniki and Athens stood out, but also more alternative options, such as Tolo, Ioannina, Edipsos, Thassos, Kalavrita and Kastoria.

Regarding the absorption of funds by Region, based on the number of transactions, Central Macedonia is first, followed by Peloponnese, Attica, Thessaly and Epirus. Specializing, the leading destinations in Central Macedonia were Thessaloniki, followed by Aridaia and Halkidiki.

In Attica, the scepters in the preference of travelers are held by Athens, followed by Aegina and Piraeus.

Tolo and Nafplio are top destinations in the Peloponnese.

Volos and Portaria stood out in the prefecture of Thessaly, while Naxos and Tinos emerged as top destinations in the South Aegean.

In Central Greece, Edipsos and Arachova were highly preferred, while, in Epirus, Ioannina and Parga.

Chania and Rethymnon emerged as top destinations in Crete, while in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Thassos and Kavala stood out.

The leading destinations in the Ionian Sea were Lefkada and Zakynthos, while, in Western Greece, Kalavrita and Patra.

Finally, in Western Macedonia, Kastoria and Florina were highly preferred, while, in the Northern Aegean, Lesvos and Chios.
