The fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in the area of the Kolovrechti wetland in Psachna, Evia, is raging. By midnight, firefighters and volunteers battled the flames and managed to contain the fronts, however the fire continues to burn uncontrollably in an inaccessible area within the wetland.
With the first light of day, the Fire Brigade started to work in order to limit the destructive work of the fire in the wetland which is of great environmental importance.
It is noted that there are many houses in the wider area, but none of them are in danger.
According to information there are indications of incendiary activity. Authorities are investigating the incident for more details to determine the cause.
The moment recorded in the video below, of the over-effort of the firefighters and volunteers to contain the fire, is typical. It was shortly before 23.00 at night when a strong wind affected the site, making the operation difficult. However, a short time later, the fire was contained while it had burned a few acres of low vegetation.
