Voridis Ultimatum to Local Authorities for Nurseries: Either you comply or they will stop working

by

A three-month extension until 31/3/2022, of all contracts of employees in the local authorities A ‘and B’ degree, which concern the coverage of needs for the treatment of the coronavirus pandemic, was submitted to the discussed bill of the Ministry of Health, in the Plenary Session.

“The extension of the fixed-term contracts that are given, concern exclusively the coverage of the needs that have arisen from the evolution of the pandemic and that does not allow us to stop them”, stressed the Minister of Interior Makis Voridis.

At the same time, responding to the trade unions of employees in the local authorities, who requested the conversion of the contracts to indefinite time, Mr. Voridis clarified that “they are subject to the relevant law on fixed-term contracts, do not cover fixed and permanent needs and can not exceed 24 months”.

“This is a trade union perspective, but the contracts that are being extended are for workers to cover only the needs created by the pandemic and the claims that they meet permanent and ongoing needs cannot be heard because they are breaking the law and exposing themselves,” he said. .

At the same time, Mr. Voridis defended the amendment for the extension until 30/7/2022 of the contracts of the employees in the municipal kindergartens, emphasizing that their non-extension in the middle of the school year would lead to huge issues for the parents and possibly closed.

“This issue is a top priority for us thinking parents. There will be no other extension than the one we are giving. “And the local authorities will have to take their responsibility and either they will comply or they will stop operating kindergartens”, noted Mr. Voridis.
