EL.AS “hit” on a gang that “ransacked” houses all over Greece: 11 arrests – Over 600,000 euros in “turnover”

Dislocatedafter a methodical and combined investigation by police officers of the Agrini Security Sub-Directorate, criminal organization involved in heaps of thefts from houses in Greek territory.

For this case, were arrested this morning, in areas of Attica, Patras, Thessaloniki and Lamia, in total eleven nationals (six men – five women), members of the criminal organization.

In order to arrest the perpetrators, a large-scale police operation was organized by the Agrini Security Sub-Directorate, which was implemented with the assistance of police officers from the Akarnania Police Directorate of OPKE and the Narcotics Prosecution Department of the Agrini Security Sub-Directorate, the Security Sub-Directorates of Athens, Western Attica, Patras, Lamia, of the Directorate of Security of Thessaloniki / TPKE, of Y.D.E.Z.I. Thessaloniki, the Delta Security Departments of Thessaloniki, Evosmos, Ilio, Xanthi, Veria, Livadia and OPKE Kamaterou.

A felony case was filed against the arrested persons for the case-by-case offenses of forming and participating in a criminal organization and committing grand larceny.

At the same time, the full identity details of ten more members of the organization (four men – six women) were identified, who are charged with the aforementioned crimes.

How and where they acted

From the thorough investigation by the police, it emerged that, since July 2022, the above defendants formed a structured and continuous criminal organization, committing (63) distinguished thefts from houses, in various cities throughout the territory, during which they removed a total of (178,870 ) euros, valuables worth (424,900) euros and (43) golden pounds, a large part of which they resold in Greece, as well as in foreign countries.

More specifically, the criminal organization developed its illegal activity in the following cities: Agrinio, Vonitsa, Athens, Maroussi, Perama, Rafina, Nea Makri, Corinth, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupolis, Komotini, Serres, Karditsa, Trikala, Arta, Drama, Veria, Ioannina, Volos, Lamia, Corfu, Lefkada, Heraklion and Rethymno in Crete.

Regarding the methodology of the members of the criminal organization, it should be noted that they acted with a different composition each time, approaching apartment buildings in urban areas in the morning and at noon.

As far as the criminal organization’s modus operandi is concerned, its members, pretending to be sellers of items, approached the houses, in order to verify the absence of the occupants, and then, using calling cards or police identification cards, they broke through unsecured doors and committed the thefts.

After committing the thefts, their accomplices were waiting for them in getaway vehicles, which they changed every time, in order to make it difficult for the police authorities to locate them.

In addition, the members of the criminal organization communicated with each other through social networking applications, using coded phraseology during their conversations.

What did the investigations find?

In searches carried out in the homes of the accused in Veria, Xanthi and Livadia, the following were found and confiscated:

• (6,500) euros
• (4) vehicles
• number of mobile phones and SIM cards and
• a number of watches as well as valuables.

It is pointed out that the members of the criminal organization obtained from committing the thefts an illegal financial benefit, which exceeds (620,000) euros.

Those arrested will be taken to the Athens District Attorney.

Investigations are continuing by the Agrinio Security Sub-Directorate in order to ascertain any involvement of the accused in other cases of theft.
