How the circuit worked – Over 1000 euros the “tariff”
A 40-year-old citizen of Cameroon was arrested, yesterday afternoon, in Athens, by police officers of the Immigration Management Department of the Directorate of Foreigners of Attica member of a migrant smuggling ring.
A case file was filed against him for facilitating the residence of foreigners who lack legal documents, possession of travel documents of third parties and forgery.
After utilizing and exchanging information with the authorities of a European country through the Europol channel of the International Police Cooperation, a coordinated police operation was carried out by the Immigration Management Department in Agios Panteleimonas, where an “informal hostel” hiding immigrants was located and the 40-year-old foreigner was arrested.

As it emerged from the further investigation, the criminal ring trafficked immigrants from Turkey to Rhodes (by boat) at a cost of 1200 euros, then to Athens by air at a cost of 500 euros, while they were charged 100 euros for their stay in the area. Afterwards, the irregular immigrants were hidden in the informal “hostel” maintained by the 40-year-old until the organization of the promotion in other European countries, serving the criminal activity of the ring. During the police operation, two foreigners who lacked legalization documents for their entry and stay in the country were located and arrested inside the building.
Two passports of third parties and a fake residence permit were confiscated. The specific case was implemented in the framework of the implementation of the National Business Plan (NES) and in the framework of action 2.2 of the EMPACT program to combat the illegal promotion of immigrants. The arrested person was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
