by

EL.AS announced the disbandment of the group with 23 members, aged between 20 and 57

They entered elderly people’s homes pretending to be technicians and using the method of employment stole everything valuable they found, with their loot exceeding 290,000 euros in money and jewelry.

This is a criminal group, the dismantling of which was announced by EL.AS., identifying the details of 23 alleged members (aged 20 to 57), all Roma from the regions of Attica, Magnesia and Thessaloniki, with the majority of them are related to each other.

According to what was announced, acting with different compositions, the perpetrators, pretending to have some damage that they were supposed to repair as electrical or elevator technicians, carried out the period from November 2021 to July of the following year, the one “strike” after the other, reaching a total of 24, in areas of eastern Thessaloniki.

Reflecting on their method of action, police officers of the Security Department of Harilaou – Analipsi found that they were choosing as potential victims elderly people, mainly with mobility and health problems, many of whom they found in street markets where they did their shopping. It is typical that they occupied the sufferers upon entering their homes and when they succeeded in entering them, with the above supposed properties, they “caged” them in specific rooms so that their movements would not be noticed.

In addition to their own vehicles or the persons’ relatives, it seems that they also used vehicles from car rental companies for their movements. Seven of the alleged members of the criminal group have previously engaged the prosecuting authorities for similar offences. The case filed against them, of a criminal nature, will be submitted to the Thessaloniki First Instance Prosecutor’s Office.
