The funeral of the former King of Greece Constantine Glyxburg took place today in the Metropolis of Athens, preeminent of the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Hieronymus and in the presence of current and former kings of Europe, including the Queen Mother of Spain and sister of the former King Constantine, Sophia, with the her husband, ex-king Juan Carlos.
The Olympic medal and decorations of the former King Constantine were placed in front of his coffin.
Inside the church, protocol was followed that dictates where the blue-blooded dignitaries will be seated, based on degree of kinship and crown hierarchy.
The funeral was delivered with emotion, first in Greek and then in English, by his eldest son, Pavlos.
The government was represented by the vice-president Panagiotis Pikrammenos and the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni.
It was preceded by a 5-hour pilgrimage to the body of the deceased in the chapel of the Metropolis, which was attended by a crowd that exceeded expectations.
