The Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki sentenced him to 24 months in prison, with a 3-year suspension, recognizing two mitigating factors
He was also found guilty in the second degree of sexual harassment of his former students, a professor of the Department of Obstetrics at the Alexandria TEI of Thessaloniki (now the International University of Greece).
The Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki sentenced him to 24 months in prison, with a 3-year suspension, recognizing two mitigating factors. The judges found him guilty of sexual abuse, an offense relating to two of the three reported cases, while on the third complaint he was found guilty of the act of sexual indecency (on conversion of the indictment from sexual abuse to sexual act). At first instance, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison, suspended.
According to the case file, the alleged acts were committed in the period 2015-16 at the private practice maintained by the accused obstetrician-gynecologist, where the female students went for free gynecological examinations, following an open invitation that he had addressed.
While apologizing, the accused professor denied the actions, characterizing the complaints as false, while he spoke of slander against him, with the aim of hurting him professionally and socially. “Everything that was done was only about the examination” he said, among other things, in his apology.
The complainants who demanded the punishment of their former teacher testified at the trial, while the trial was attended by representatives of women’s collectives.
