Kalantzakis murder: Memories of the famous case awaken – In the stool tomorrow the widow and her lover

by

The 42-year-old widow Kalantzaki insists on her innocence, as she initially claims that she did not know that her ex-lover would murder her husband

For tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18, the trial – in the second instance – has been set for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18, at the Eastern Crete Joint Jury Court of Appeals for the much-lauded case of the murder of Lassithio cardiologist Christodoulos Kalantzakis, in October 2017, on the Ierapetra-Siteias provincial road.

The 42-year-old widow of the doctor and her 41-year-old ex-lover are expected to sit on the bench of the appellate court.

Both defendants were convicted in February 2019 by the Joint Jury Court of Heraklion in life sentences.

Almost four years since the first-instance court and almost 5.5 years since the cold-blooded “execution” of the 62-year-old Kalantzakis, the lawyers of the two former lovers are expected to put up a tough “battle” in order to break the life sentences for their principals.

It should be noted that the 42-year-old widow Kalantzaki stubbornly insists on her innocence, as she claims from the beginning that no one knew that her ex-lover would murder her husband. For his part, the 41-year-old ex-policeman had argued that indeed the 42-year-old had not the slightest involvement in the case.

The Chronicles

In October 2017, the 62-year-old cardiologist Christodoulos Kalantzakis was “executed” in cold blood by a 41-year-old ex-policeman of Bulgarian origin. This is the ex-lover of the 42-year-old cardiologist’s husband. The brutal killing took place in Pilalimas Sitias, on the provincial road Ierapetras-Siteias.

The attacker fired three times with a shotgun at the cardiologist. The first shot hit him in the head, and then, after the doctor’s car had swerved off the road, the 41-year-old allegedly shot the 62-year-old twice more, killing him instantly.
