Ukraine: At 44 dead from the Russian strike in Dnipro – 79 injured

It is one of the deadliest strikes on Ukrainian civilians since the Russian invasion began in February 2021.

The authorities in Ukraine announced today that 22 people are still missing in the rubble of the apartment building hit by a Russian missile in the city on Saturday Dniprowhere at least 44 people have been killed.

The Ukrainian presidency pointed out that the body of a boy was found in the ruins this morning.

At this stage “39 people have been rescued (including 6 children), 44 people have been killed, including 4 children, and 79 people have been injured (including 16 children),” Ukrainian rescuers said today in their latest tally .

And Dnipro mayor Boris Filatov confirmed the tally in a Facebook post, writing: “I’m here. Already 44 dead”.

The blow is one of the deadliest for Ukrainian civilians since the Russian invasion began in February 2021.

The death toll is expected to rise as rescuers continue to search for people under the rubble. “22 people are wanted,” they said this morning on Telegram.

On Saturday, a Russian missile hit a residential complex in Dnipro, destroying “more than 200 apartments,” according to Kirill Tymoshenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency.

Moreover, earlier today the adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, Oleksiy Arestovych, submitted his resignation after the criticism he received for implying that a Russian missile was shot down by Ukraine.

Arestovic announced his resignation via Facebook after publicly apologizing and retracting statements he had made in a Telegram post.

The Ukrainian Air Force has explained that the apartment building in Dnipro was hit by a Russian Kh-22 missile, which Kyiv does not have the capabilities to shoot down.
