“The infrastructure will all be done,” said L. Mendoni about Tatoi, while she also mentioned the Parthenon Sculptures and the draft law on public museums

“Citizens will have access to the old palaces until 2025,” the Minister of Culture and Sports says about Tatoi. Lina Mendoni, during today’s interview on a radio station. “The complete restoration of the estate will not have been done, but these programs, such as the conversion of the Palace into a Museum, will have been done. The conversion of the Stable of George I into a Museum will have taken place. The infrastructure will all be done. The proclamations for private individuals to undertake the restoration of some buildings that will host either catering or hospitality will be issued within 2023. Therefore, the Program undertaken by the Ministry of Culture is consistent with the schedule and in accordance with the Sustainability Study which was presented in 2021”, the minister added, among other things.

Mrs. Mendoni also referred to Parthenon sculptures. “Anything announced in the context of a negotiation invalidates the negotiation itself. What I have to tell you is that Greece has its red lines, which it follows with particular consistency”, he noted, stressing that it is “a difficult, but not impossible, negotiation”.

As for the draft law on public museums, the minister said that she hears “various rumors that the five museums will become private”, noting that “these are naive things to say and cannot be believed”. “Because the status of museums is public. An NPDD, like the Acropolis Museum, is still public”, he emphasized and added: “What we want to do is what happened in the big museums all over Europe in the 80s and 90s and here we are left behind. We want to give, always with a public character, to our museums the ability, the possibility, the flexibility, to operate and provide services for the benefit of society as a whole”.

Finally, the Minister of Culture and Sports stated that the presentation of the architectural draft for the National Archaeological Museum will be made on February 15 by the architects themselves, David Chipperfield and Topazis Office. “From there, the various procedures for the preparation of the studies will be carried out. They are studies difficult and complex. We estimate that for them we will need about a year and a half to start the tender process for the implementation of the project”, informed L. Mendoni, among others.
