The 53-year-old was arrested while receiving another 4000 euros from a 49-year-old as part of the loan debt

Police in Veria arrested a 53-year-old man for extortion and usury, following a complaint by a 49-year-old.

The 49-year-old complained that the arrested person, taking advantage of his financial need, lent him a sum of money at a very high interest rate and then, with threats, extortionately demanded from the borrower the payment of exorbitant sums of money, in relation to the money he had lent.

In particular, the 49-year-old had borrowed the sum of 5,000 euros in September 2021 and, according to what he complained, up until recently he had paid the 53-year-old more than 20,000 euros, however he constantly asked him for more money, under the pretext that he was not paid on time the amount due, as a result of which the interest has risen.

The 53-year-old was finally arrested, the day before yesterday at noon, in the area of ​​Imathia, while receiving another 4000 euros from the 49-year-old as part of the loan debt.

The aforementioned sum of 4,000 euros, another 350 euros, three mobile phones, handwritten notes with amounts of loans and debts as well as a private informal loan agreement with a citizen, which is also being investigated, were found and confiscated in the possession of the arrested person.

A vehicle he was using was also seized.

The police investigation continues, in order to ascertain his possible participation in similar criminal acts.

The arrested person, with the case file filed against him, was taken to the Prosecutor of Veria, who referred him to the Investigator.
