The Fire Service received 83 calls for pumping water – “Lake” the Municipal Stadium of Aridaia

Rainfall and hailstorms hit since the morning the municipality of Almopia in Pella and mayor Christos Batsis convened the Coordinating Local Body of Civil Protection.

Mr. Batsis, in his statements to the Athens Agency, talked about “unprecedented bad weather” and added that older residents compare the intensity of the phenomena to the flood of 1979, in which there were also human losses.

According to the mayor, damage has been caused to shops and basements in the central square of Aridaia, in the stadium of Almopos and in fields, while traffic has been stopped in several places in the municipality. The mayor emphasized that the phenomena were especially intense earlier in the afternoon.

THE Fire Service received 83 calls for pumping water and took related actions in 22 cases.

As soon as the bad weather stops tomorrow, the municipality will proceed with registration to start the process of granting compensation to those affected.

All primary and secondary schools as well as the KDAP, KDAP MeA of the municipality of Almopia will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday.

Stoppage of traffic on provincial roads in Pieria

According to the General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia, due to heavy rainfall, the traffic of vehicles has been stopped in two places in Pieria, specifically at the 12th kilometer of the provincial road Kontariotissa – Agios Spyridonas and at the 7th kilometer of the provincial road Katerinis – Kontariotissa.
