WhatsApp may soon allow its users to send photos in original quality, according to the WABetaInfo website, which publishes information about the app’s trial versions.
According to the website, the functionality was discovered in a code snippet of the next version of WhatsApp beta, still in development. Not even registered testers have access to this phase of the application. The tweet with the information is from last Thursday (19).
Wanted, WhatsApp said it does not comment on rumors.
Today, the messaging application allows those who use the application to choose whether they want to receive images in higher resolution or save space – there is also an automatic option, in which the algorithm chooses the most suitable option depending on the size of the photo. All, however, with some degree of compression.
The loss of quality is justified by the gain in file transfer speed.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature would be called “Photo Quality” and would be close to the drawing and image editing tools available during file upload.
Unlike what was recorded during the launch of the quality adjustment setting, the code does not make it clear whether the supposed new functionality will also work with videos.
Today, it is possible to send images and videos in their original quality when selecting the option to forward documents, although it is no longer possible to view them in the application.
Learn how to receive photos in higher quality:
- Access WhatsApp settings
- Go to the “Storage and Data” tab
- Click “Photo Quality”
- Select “High Quality”
