At least 6 bodies have been found after the sinking of a boat with migrants off Paros

A giant search and rescue operation for foreigners has been underway since Friday afternoon, in the sea area northwest of Paros, after the capsizing of a sailing boat carrying at least 80 migrants. So far, 6 bodies have been retrieved from the sea area, while 57 foreigners have been rescued.

An Offshore Ship and five Coast Guard patrol boats, a Navy helicopter, an Air Force C-130 aircraft, nine floating ships are operating in the sea area, while officers of the Submarine Missions Unit have rushed to the area.

From the first moment of the incident, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Giannis Plakiotakis, was informed and instructed to immediately mobilize any appropriate means for the rescue of the foreigners.

According to all indications, the sailboat in question had sailed from the coast of Turkey to Italy.

It should be noted that this is the third incident of search and rescue in the Aegean during the last three days, in which traffickers from Turkey are involved who are transporting people illegally.
