A great disturbance was caused by the strong earthquake of 5.9 on the Richter scale that occurred at 14:37 in the sea area off Lindos, Rhodes. The 5.9-magnitude earthquake was particularly felt on the island of Rhodes and the other islands of the Dodecanese.
The earthquake was particularly intense in the city of Rhodes and on the eastern side of the island, fortunately without any damage.
According to the revised solution of the Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake occurred at a distance of 498 km east southeast of Athens and the epicenter of the tremor is located in the sea area 58 km southeast of Lindos with a focal depth of 30.5.
Testimonies of the residents speak of a long duration of the seismic vibration in the area, while so far no damage or injuries have been reported.
“No report, so far, of danger to human life or property damage from the earthquake that occurred east of Rhodes,” wrote in a Facebook post, Regional Governor of South Aegean, Giorgos Chatzimarkos.
