The heavy rainfall has already created minor problems on the provincial road network
The local authorities in Zakynthos are on alert, due to the new bad weather that has been affecting the island since morning.
By decision of the Mayor of Zakynthos, tomorrow, Thursday 26/1/2023, all schools and kindergartens on the island will remain closed due to the adverse weather conditions, according to imerazante.gr.
In particular, the heavy rainfall has already created minor problems on the provincial road network, while due to the stormy winds that will reach 8 to 9 Beaufort, it is likely that the coastal ferry routes from Zakynthos to Kyllini will be prohibited.
Protection instructions
The Civil Protection Service of the Regional Unit of Zakynthos “appeals to all residents of Zakynthos, if and when severe weather phenomena occur in places, such as heavy rainfall and stormy winds, to avoid unnecessary movements especially in areas that pose a risk of landslides and local flood phenomena”.
Secure items that can be blown away by wind or heavy rain and may cause damage or injury. Fix any billboards they may have posted. Secure the doors and windows of their homes or workplaces. Be careful in their movements. Residents of all sensitive areas that have faced similar problems in the past are asked to be particularly careful in the event of landslides.
Also, all residents, especially in rural areas, are requested to be particularly careful in the event of accumulation of transported materials and objects that may cause flooding problems in ditches, streams, bridges and streams.”
