The Municipality of Alexandroupolis proceeded with the installation of modern, automatic defibrillators in crowded public places and sports venues with the aim of “functioning as a wall of protection, if and when the need arises for both employees and citizens as well as for athletes”.
The points where the defibrillators are located are the town hall of Alexandroupolis, the municipal store of Feron, the municipal store of Anthia, the Fotis Kosmas and Maistro stadiums, the football stadiums of Ethnikos, Cappadocia, Kteo, Feron, Palagia, the Mich indoor gym. Paraskevopoulos, the swimming pool, the Alexandroupoli Municipal Conservatory, the Alexandroupoli Special School and the 2nd KAPI.
According to the municipal authority “it is very important that those facing a sudden cardiac arrest can take immediate and life-saving action” while pointing out how the timely use of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) “is considered essential, because it dramatically increases the chances of survival of the victim”.
Regarding the characteristics of the specific medical device, it is a portable, small and easy-to-use device designed for use by untrained citizens without medical supervision. It has built-in voice and visual instructions in Greek and fully guides the citizen who rushes to help step by step.
Finally, it gives the possibility of providing electrical resuscitation, if it is required, after an analysis made by the machine itself or simply suggests performing CPR with 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths.
