Mr. Ginis succeeds the outgoing mayor Petros Filippou, who after a long career in the Local Government, resigned in order to be a candidate for the parliamentary position in the upcoming elections.
The process of nominating the new mayor took place after a secret vote among the municipal councilors of the majority faction and Mr. Ginis gathered the absolute majority from the first vote, against his co-candidate and vice-mayor for Strategic and Operational Planning Dimitris Papachristou.
Now all that remains is the validation of the result by the Decentralized Administration of Attica, which is expected within five days at the latest, when the new mayor will assume his duties. During this time, the deputy mayor of the Department of Technical Reciprocal Services and Projects, Vassilis Boutsis, is acting as mayor.
