The disagreement with the decision of the government to enter the stadiums with a maximum of 1000 people, was expressed by the PAE of the Super League in the extraordinary teleconference that they had at noon on Tuesday (28/12).
The decision they made is to request an immediate appointment with the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, to hold a meeting, where the league will be represented by Olympiacos, AEK and the presidency of the cooperative (Borovilos, Koxenoglou).
What they will ask from the Minister of Health will be “pressed” on the basis of AEK’s proposal: That is, to allow at least one season ticket holders to enter the stadiums, regardless of the percentage of fans that will be allowed.
As a ceiling, that is, to be the official declarations of the duration of each PAE (what was declared in the league until 30/9). And beyond that, they will seek to “get” as much as they can.
With the proposal of AEK as a basis, all PAE identified, regardless of whether each had a different proposal.
For example, Olympiacos proposed 50% of the capacity. PAOK proposed 30-40%.
For his part, the vice-president of Panathinaikos, Leonidas Boutsikaris said in his statement:
“This 10% is outrageously stupid, we must claim its overthrow. “At least they should listen to us before making decisions.”
PAE Lamia, Volos, PAS Giannina and Panetolikos were absent from the teleconference, while Ionikos did not have a legal representation but agreed with the above.
Following the teleconference, the Super League issued the following statement:
“The Super League fully understands the criticality of the situation, as it has developed due to the pandemic, the increase of cases, the concern in relation to the forecasts of the competent bodies for their further increase and of course shares the necessity of taking restrictive measures.
The Super League estimates, however, that the 10% limit, (which is tantamount to absolute closure of the stadiums, as it is practically impossible for teams with a large number of season tickets to choose which of the fans will be allowed to enter the stadiums) is disproportionate to reality, as it is known that only vaccinated fans and with the obligatory use of a mask enter the stadiums, while the football fields are also purely open spaces.
Most important of all, however, is that such restrictions do not exist in relation to other spectacles or forms of entertainment in general, which are even held indoors.
Therefore, we consider it necessary to revise this measure, dynamically, of course, depending on the evolution of the pandemic.
In this context, a committee consisting of the Chairman of the Board. Giorgos Borovilos, the vice president Katia Koxenoglou and representatives of PAE AEK and Olympiakos will request an immediate meeting with the Minister of Health and the competent bodies, in order to propose measures that are reasonable, proportionate and with absolute respect to the fans.
The above text of the announcement was unanimously adopted by the following members of the Board, who were present at today’s (28/12) meeting: AEK, Apollon Sm., Aris, Asteras Tripolis, Atromitos Ath., Ionikos, Olympiakos, OFI, Panathinaikos, PAOK, as well as the EPO “.
