Blankets were distributed to people sleeping on the street, in the center of Athens
For the needs of the homeless, in view of the coming cold weather, a group of the Charity Organization “APOSTOLI” of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens distributed bedding – blankets in the center of Athens last night. Volunteers and employees of “APOSTOLIS” talked together with homeless people and recorded their requests due to the expected cold invasion.
Homeless people ready to fight the winter cold, just like any other time, with extreme weather conditions, they try to warm themselves immersed in sleeping bags. Taking their heads out for a while, they whisper a thank you and through the next few conversations the people of APOSTOLI try to map needs and priorities for their daily survival through a harsh and painful reality.
Every night they make their improvised bed, in cardboard boxes, with their few belongings next to them in some corner of the sidewalk or in the little space in front of a store.
“APOSTOLIS” aid includes solid food, sweets, water and fruit juices, but sometimes humanitarian aid is accompanied by bedding, clothing, footwear and personal hygiene and care items, depending on the weather conditions, circumstances and requests of those in need .
Faithful to the will of our Archbishop, Mr. Ieronymos, “APOSTOLIS” will continue to continuously adapt its humanitarian interventions to alleviate human suffering, the essential intervention and help to deal with every social problem, giving hope, a way out and immediate response to the expectations of our fellow human beings.
