“Unfortunately, once again we have innocent victims, who lost their lives because of the criminal attitude of traffickers”
The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Yiannis Plakiotakis, made a statement regarding the migrant rescue operation in Leros, where four dead were recovered, among them an infant.
Mr. Plakiotakis states in detail:
“The officers of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, once again proved that their primary concern is the protection of human life, rescuing under particularly adverse weather conditions, our fellow human beings, who the criminal traffickers’ rings that start from Turkey, with the tolerance of the Turkish authorities, they left helpless off Leros.
I also want to congratulate the officers of the Air Force and the Hellenic Armed Forces, as well as the private individuals who rushed to the scene to assist the officers of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard in this particularly difficult and demanding rescue operation.
