Daniel Arsham’s collection of corroded cars will be on display later this month in Los Angeles at the Petersen Auto Museum.

The new exhibition titled ‘Arsham Auto Motive’ will feature a series of thought-provoking contemporary sculptures and posters created by the New York-based American artist.

Through the sculptures presented in the exhibition, the artist historicizes the automobile – a model of the modern era – and its associated symbols, presenting the viewer with a glimpse of future history.

Daniel Arsham’s creations are reminiscent of valuable cars that have appeared in Hollywood movies, the 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback, the 2022 Porsche 911, the 2018 Ferrari and the 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster, among others. He casts geological materials such as sand, pyrite and quartz into these modern objects. The effect makes the works look as if they are fossilized or unearthed after being buried for centuries.

The Cleveland-born artist transforms everyday objects into archaeological relics of the future with his trademark technique.

“I’m excited to present my work to the city of Los Angeles and the huge community of car enthusiasts,” Daniel Arsham said in a statement. “Automotive design is in a constant state of evolution and this exhibition seeks to reflect both its origins and its future,” he added.

Daniel Arsham is an artist who combines sculpture, architecture and performance and reinterprets existing materials and structures to give a spectacular effect to the audience.
