Closed will remain the schools and tomorrow, Thursday 9 February, in certain regions of Greece, due to the bad weather “Barbara” which continues to affect the country.
Specifically in Attica and according to the Region’s official announcement:
The Regional Governor of Attica G. Patoulis, after further consultation with 66 municipalities of Atticas, the forecasts of the EMY and the relevant information from the meteorologists K. Lagouvardou and T. Kalyvas, the requests of the mayors and with the participation of the village Vice-Regional Governors, the Vice-Regional Governors for Civil Protection, Finances and Education made the decision that the Primary schools will remain closed tomorrow as well and Secondary Education in areas that still face problems from the bad weather. In addition, in areas such as Eastern Attica, the Northern Sector and Western Attica, etc. (in detail below) it was agreed after relevant suggestions from the mayors, that due to low temperatures, teachers should be in schools as usual and students should arrive by 9 in the morning. The relevant decision was taken after a relevant proposal by the District Governor G. Patoulis in order to facilitate working parents who wish their children to come to school earlier. Regarding the operation of the nurseries and the attendance times, relevant announcements will be made by the municipalities that are also responsible. In this context, the District Governor appeals to school principals to have ensured the timely heating of school rooms.
The hyperlocal schools are open
The public and private extra-local schools, of Primary and Secondary Education (EPAL, Music, Artistic, Experimental, Evening, Special Schools, etc.), will be open after the recommendation of the Regional Governor G. Patoulis, unless there is a contrary decision by the their managers.
On the occasion of today’s meeting with the mayors, the Regional Governor of Attica G. Patoulis points out:
“With the exception of some municipalities that still have problems, the rest of the schools will operate normally. In the schools that were agreed to open later due to frost and low temperatures, we asked that the attendance of students be possible until 9. Until that time, the principals and managers of the schools need to have ensured that the classrooms have been heated. Public and private ultra-local schools will remain open unless determined otherwise by their principals after an evaluation of the data.
