Remind which restaurants and bars closed in São Paulo this year

by

It has been 21 months since the pandemic was declared in the country. And, despite a certain optimism perfuming the air of São Paulo in these last weeks of the year, due to the high rates of vaccination, the crisis caused by Covid-19 still haunts the capital of São Paulo — not to mention the emergence of new variants of the virus , like the omicron.

The pandemic was the main motivator for the farewells we saw in 2021 between bars and restaurants in the city. But not just her. Verticalization and the sale of real estate to make room for buildings also caused many addresses to close their doors.

Check out 15 bars and restaurants that ceased to exist in the capital this year.

Antonietta Kitchen

The trattoria closed its doors in July, after 12 years in Higienópolis, as the property was sold. The place was commanded by Milton Freitas, who now maintains the Jacarandá restaurant in Pinheiros.

Burikita

A classic of Bom Retiro, the place was one of those that could not withstand the economic crisis caused by the pandemic and said goodbye to the public in December. Opened 51 years ago by an immigrant couple from the former Yugoslavia, the bakery was known for its strudels and burekas, a puff pastry delicacy with a variety of fillings.

Buttina

After 25 years, customers said goodbye to the jabuticaba trees and Italian dishes at the restaurant in Pinheiros. Filomena Chiarella, who was the in-house chef, delivers pasta and sweets to order on Instagram @deliciasdafilo10.

Frank Bar

One of the great representatives of high-end cocktails in the city of São Paulo, the bar closed its doors in December, after six years in the lobby of the classic Maksoud Plaza hotel, near Avenida Paulista. The farewell came in the wake of the hotel’s closure, which also took with it the Vino wine bar — which has announced that it is seeking a new hotel to maintain its operation.

genesis

A bohemian classic from Vila Madalena, the bar was already on its toes in 2020, when it looked for investors to help it maintain itself, but it closed for good in March, after 20 years. In addition to the problems caused by the pandemic, disputes with the property owner entered the account.

today

Opened in 2018, the place was known for serving brunch and drinks in a cool environment in Vila Buarque. The house joined in crowdfunding campaigns to try to survive, but did not resist the economic impact caused by the pandemic and said goodbye in February.

There from the Sale

The charming mix of restaurant, café and emporium closed its doors in March due to the pandemic, after 11 years in Vila Madalena. Run by chef Heloisa Bacellar, the house had a way of selling inland, with a menu with recipes such as minced meat, cakes, pies and cheese bread.

Organic Manjue

Run by chef Renato Caleffi since 2008, the organic food restaurant announced in April that it would remain closed due to uncertainties caused by the new coronavirus. But the public has not been completely orphaned by the healthy meals at the house: four units of the Le Manjue café are still operating in São Paulo.

Eat
It ended its activities in March. The restaurant, installed in Vila Leopoldina since 2011, operated under the command of Benny Goldenberg, who is a partner of chef Paola Carosella at Arturito and La Guapa, and featured recipes prepared in the wood-burning oven.

Cafeteria

He said goodbye to the public in July, after three years open in Vila Madalena. Run by chef Rafael Navarini, the restaurant served signature food and, despite having adapted to delivery, it was one of the houses that did not resist the uncertainties caused by the pandemic.

Micaela

It was in January that chef Fábio Vieira announced the end of Micaela, in the Jardins region, a restaurant where Brazilian cuisine met Spanish cuisine. The Ilhabela unit, on the north coast of São Paulo, remains open.

Olivier Bread World

Another trendy address that closed its doors due to the pandemic was Olivier Anquier’s bakery, which had been operating since 2017 in Praça da República — but the Esther Rooftop restaurant, also run by the French, is still open at the top of the same building. Despite the closure, the chef has not stopped producing breads and sweets, which can be purchased through the iFood and Rappi apps at the Olivier Anquier Boulangerie Delivery store.

Ramona

The rock soul address that operated since 2012 in the center of the capital and served food well into the night was also a victim of the economic problems caused by the pandemic. It closed its doors in March, after not adapting to delivery.

Scar

The bar known for its drinks and rock soundtrack was one of the points that helped transform Barra Funda into a modern neighborhood. The house could not resist the opening and closing of salons because of Covid-19 and said goodbye to its clientele in April. Today, the property houses the Na Fila do Pão bakery and the Fialka flower shop.

Vinheria Percussi

Run by brothers Silvia and Lambert Percussi, the Italian house serves the last lunch this Friday, the 31st. Since 1985 in Pinheiros, the property has been sold to make room for a building. But the duo will serve the public again next year, with a delivery service and a new restaurant, also in Pinheiros.
