The recommendations of the committee after the evaluation of the National Diagnostic Examinations 2022
Its conclusions and proposals were submitted to the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, by the competent Scientific Committee, after studying and evaluating the 2022 National Diagnostic Examinations, in order to be used in the context of educational policy-making with the aim of improving the education provided.
The main points of the relevant report of the committee, regarding the exams, which concerned the subjects of Modern Greek Language and Mathematics, are summarized in the following:
About her lesson Modern Greek Languageas noted by a relevant announcement of the Ministry of Education, it is deemed necessary to strengthen the text-centered approach of the language lesson with a focus on the pedagogy of polyliteracies and on the meaning of linguistic diversity and otherness.
In addition, emphasis should be placed on the management and organization of information, the techniques of condensing discourse, the utilization of deepening activities, as well as the cultivation of metacognitive abilities through modern teaching approaches.
As for Mathematics, the need to reinforce basic mathematical concepts through systematic problem-solving practice is highlighted, as well as the strengthening of mathematical reasoning and argumentation through shifts in teaching practice that focus on the inclusion and connection of Mathematics to the real world.
It is noted that the examinations in question were conducted for the first time on May 18, 2022 in 554 schools, primary (6th grade) and high schools (3rd grade), of all types throughout the Greek territory, with the participation of 11,411 male and female students.
These exams, also called the “Greek PISA”, they are part of the Ministry of Education’s effort to draw up an educational policy based on measurable results of the educational system.
The next National Diagnostic Examinations
For the second year in a row, the “Greek PISA” will be held at a national level, for students of the 6th grade of Primary schools and the 3rd grade of High schools in subjects included in the curricula of the cognitive subjects of Modern Greek Language and Mathematics. The purpose of these examinations will be to draw conclusions regarding the course of the implementation of the Study Programs and the degree of achievement of the expected learning outcomes.
According to a relevant update from the Ministry of Education, the exams will be implemented in a representative sample of at least 6,000 students on an anonymous basis, from at least 600 stratified sampling schools. The exam will last 75 minutes per subject, with an internal break of 30 minutes.
An open type will be added to this year’s exams short answer questions, beyond those of the closed press, which existed exclusively last year. The process will be supervised by the scientific committee, which consists of members of the Authority for Quality Assurance in Primary and Secondary Education (ADIPPDE) and the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP).
