With advanced four-wheel drive in all versions

On versions of the new Ranger powered by the 2.0L EcoBlue 170PS diesel engine, Ford uses an electronic four-wheel drive system, with which the driver can choose between two-wheel and four-wheel drive via a handy rotary selector located on the center console. vehicle. In the default position, the drive is transmitted to the rear wheels (RWD).

Both the 2.0L EcoBlue 205PS and 3.0L EcoBlue V6 240PS diesel engines, as well as the range-topping 3.0L EcoBoost V6 292PS petrol engine, feature an intelligent four-wheel drive system to deliver the required pulling power in a flash even in the most extreme driving conditions. This four-wheel drive system uses a 2-speed electromechanical transfer case with electronically controlled on-demand torque that monitors the vehicle’s behavior to provide an increased level of performance. The system offers the driver the options of 2H, 4A, 4H and 4L.

When 4A mode is selected, the system continuously varies the torque between the front and rear axles for optimal performance in all conditions and to prevent wheel slip, automatically taking care of where the torque should be distributed, without the driver having to intervenes again. Regardless of engine choice, whether in the 4H or 4L option, the system mechanically “locks” the four-wheel drive, allowing the torque to be equally distributed between the two axles of the new Ranger (50/50). The 4H and 4L options are mainly used in off-road conditions or slippery terrain, such as snow, sand or mud. When 4L mode is selected, torque sub-multiplication is provided for even more demanding conditions, such as deep sand, steep slopes or towing objects of increased weight.
