Ana Toni is chosen to head the National Secretariat for Climate Change

The director of iCS (Instituto Clima e Sociedade), Ana Toni, was chosen to head the National Secretariat for Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

Economist and doctor in political science, she accepted the invitation made by minister Marina Silva and should take over the position in the coming weeks, according to iCS.

With a long career in public policy, the environment, sustainable development and climate change, he has been a member of business councils and civil society institutions.

Toni has been at the head of iCS for eight years, a philanthropic institution that supports organizations dedicated to the climate cause in Brazil.

Previously, he chaired the Board of Greenpeace International and directed the Brazilian arms of the Ford Foundation and ActionAid. She is also the founder of GIP (Public Interest Management) and is part of the Brazilian Women Leaders Network for Sustainability.

In her inauguration speech in early January, Marina Silva announced the recreation of the National Secretariat for Climate Change, which includes a department for ocean policy and coastal management. The body should also support the National Council on Climate Change and the Interministerial Committee on Climate Change.
