A small handwritten note in a package of blankets and white kid gloves, which read in Greek “Solidarity the weapon of the peoples” and in Turkish “Geçmiş olsun komşular”means “Get well soon, neighbor” became today a symbol of the solidarity campaign of the unions, to the earthquake victims in Turkey and Greece.
The parcel with the inscription was brought to the offices of the Pallesvian Labor Center in Mytilini by an unknown citizen. The photo of the package with the gloves and the note was posted on PAME International’s twitter account and immediately received hundreds of “thank you neighbor” messages from Turkey and thousands of others expressing solidarity, while it was also reproduced by the media of the neighboring country.
The collection of materials for the earthquake victims will continue in the following days, at the offices of the Labor Center in Mytilini. It should be noted that the intercity buses of Lesvos carry, free of charge, parcels with materials for the earthquake victims, intended for the Labor Center.
