As of this morning, at 06:00, the new restrictive measures came into force in order to stop the course of the super-contagious variant “Omicron” of SARS-CoV-2. In particular, according to the specialization of the measures taken by the Minister of Health Thanos Plevris on Wednesday:

– Catering and entertainment stores will be open until 12 midnight without music, 6 people per table, not standing and metric distance to the table seats. The exception is New Year’s Eve, when the stores will be allowed to operate until 2:00 in the morning, but with all the above prohibitions. Among the prohibitions is the prohibition of holding a party event in a public or private place, in order to avoid the transfer of entertainment to other places.

The use of a high protection mask (FFP2 / KN95) or double in supermarkets, public transport and where there is congestion, as well as by restaurant workers, is mandatory.

– Teleworking application in public and private sector up to 50% and rolling hours, depending on the capabilities of each service.

– Visit only with a 48-hour PCR test in nursing homes and hospitals, while medical facilities are not allowed to enter medical facilities.

– In the stadiums the fullness of vaccinated spectators will be up to 10% of their capacity, with a spectator ceiling of 1,000 people. If the measures are not observed, the matches will be held behind closed doors.

It is noted that the committee of experts met on Wednesday and suggested that the restrictive measures be implemented from 06:00 on the morning of Thursday, December 30, and not from January 3 as announced.

The measures will be valid from today until January 16.

Furthermore, during the specialization of the measures, the Minister of Health said that patients with the “Delta” mutation are basically hospitalized in the NSS and is under pressure, and taking into account all the factors, such as the “Omicron” over-transmission, an agreement has been reached with the private sector to support the system if needed.

In the community, the “Omicron” mutation is predominant, Mr. Plevris noted and called on the citizens to be especially careful and to be vaccinated.

In fact, he underlined that the vaccines cover the “Omicorn” mutation and the vaccination coverage of the population has recently increased by 10 units. The percentage of over 60 years who have taken the booster dose or have made an appointment exceeds 90%.

The minister pointed out that at the moment, the younger generations are mainly affected, 18-30 years old, who are basically ill asymptomatically.

He recommended that anyone who has the slightest symptom or has been exposed to areas with high coloration should behave as a carrier. Tests should be done at family tables.

He also said that the government will re-evaluate the whole framework both in terms of the obligation of vaccinations and for the time when the certificates will be valid.

Finally, the minister noted that the data make us optimistic about the course of the pandemic, but do not lead us to any complacency.
