The last farewell to ND MP Manousos Voloudakis, who “passed away” on the morning of Wednesday, February 8, at the age of 57 in an Athens hospital where he had been hospitalized for the last time with a serious health problem, Chania said today.
The exodus service was held at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Assumption of the Theotokos at 12:00. The “present” was given by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, ministers, MPs, representatives of the Local Self-Government, agencies, unions and many people.
The deceased’s body was taken to the church from his paternal home in a procession followed by his family, relatives and friends.
In his funeral speech, the prime minister referred to the last time they were together in the akritic Gavdos, as well as to the message of the deceased when, due to health reasons, he was unable to attend the tour of Mr. Mitsotakis in Heraklion.
“Today we say goodbye to the worthy parliamentarian and scientist, the kind partner and exemplary family man”, noted the prime minister, while also talking about the Sfakian origin and pride of the amazing man, his path as Deputy Minister of Electronic Government and the relations he had developed with him, stressing that they were “solid relationships based on honesty and love for Crete and the homeland”.
Addressing the wife and children of Manousos Voloudakis, he pointed out: “They should be proud of you.”
Mr. Mitsotakis concluded his funeral speech by referring to the words of Nikos Kazantzakis from his latest book “Aniforos”: “This is the only way to save life”.
Funeral speeches were delivered by the Metropolitan of Damascus, the Archbishop of Crete, Evgenios, Christos Homenidis, Olga Kefalogianni, representative of the Union of Sfakians and the mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis.
The exit procession was attended by, among others, the Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, the Ministers of the Interior, Makis Voridis, Finance, Christos Staikouras, Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, Shipping and Islands Policy, Yiannis Plakiotakis, Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, deputy ministers Domna Michailidou and Sofia Zacharakis, MPs from Chania Dora Bakoyannis and Vassilis Digalakis, MEPs, as well as MPs from regions of the country, the regional governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis, mayors and the secretary of the ND, Pavlos Marinakis.
After the end of the funeral procession, a procession was formed, which through the central streets of the city will end up at the cemetery of Agios Loukas, in Chania, for the burial.
The funeral of Manousos Voloudakis is carried out at public expense.
