The Council of State, in a pilot trial, a trial that is which is a pilot for all pending casesresolved the issue related to the calculation of compensation to which KTEL is entitled for reduced tickets for special groups, such as students, students, the disabled, etc.

According to the Council of State, KTEL compensation for free or reduced tickets is calculated based on their difference from the full ticket

The supreme court vindicated the owners of KTEL for the losses they suffered during the years of the economic crisis and, along with its decision, opened the way for them to receive large sums of money from the Greek government.
The decisions issued unanimously by the Council of State irrevocably resolve the issue of the fee for reduced or free tickets and therefore all pending trials throughout the territory for requests of KTEL owners are now determined by the decisions of the Council of State.

According to the decisions issued by the increased due to the seriousness of the case, seven-member composition of the 1st Department of the supreme court, (chairman: Vice-chairman Spyridoula Chrysikopoulou and rapporteur: State Councilor Konstantina Koniditsiotou), “the calculation of the amount of compensation is directly and according to way clear from the law and the relevant explanatory report, it is equal with the total difference between the price of free or reduced-price tickets issued in the respective time period and the full fee”.

With the decisions issued (decisions 221-223/2023), the Heraklion, Larissa and Ioannina bus companies were vindicated, claiming a total of 8,762,251 euros for the three years 2008-2011, as the compensations had been limited due to the great financial crisis.

After solving the way to find the KTEL compensation (difference between the price of the free or reduced ticket and the full fare), the State advisers referred the cases to the Administrative Courts for finalization of the amounts claimed and for a final resolution of the pending cases in the Administrative Justice cases and the other KTEL.
