Impressed by the progress and services of the digital portal of the Greek public administration, gov.gr, said on Tuesday Margaret VestagerExecutive Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for a Europe ready for the digital age.

“I am impressed that I see how quickly the digital portal of the Greek Public Administration (gov.gr) improved. In March 2020, 500 digital public services were gathered there. In less than three years, the number has tripled to more than 1,500. And the response of the world followed” she said characteristically in her greeting on the completion of three years of the digital portal.

As the European official pointed out, “digital interactions with public bodies have grown exponentially, simultaneously increasing the capabilities of the state. For example, you can request a birth certificate or driver’s license, get a prescription and medical result, or even start your own business. Today millions of Greeks can do this with just a few simple clicks.”

“Trust is absolutely key, because without trust digital transformation simply wouldn’t happen. But trust is not the only thing. We must also equip citizens with empowerment tools and ensure that no one is left behind. Greece is very close to the EU average in terms of digital skills, with just over half of Greeks having basic skills. But this is a long way from the 80% we have set for 2030 as part of the Digital Ten Year Plan” noted Margrethe Vestager.
