Over 20,000 photos were submitted by amateur and professional travel photographers from 154 countries to the 2022 competition Travel Photographer of the Year. A panel of judges selected the winners in the various categories, both for their portfolio and for their best photographs. The first prize and the title “Travel Photographer of the Year” was won by the Slovenian, Matjaz Krivic.

Krivic has been participating since 2003, the first competition; with his extensive experience documenting a natural disaster in the Canaries and endangered wildlife in Kenya. “Now, after 20 years I have won the biggest award and it makes me very proud and it means a lot to me,” he said. “For as long as I can remember, travel and photography have been my passion and a big part of my life; and this award inspires me to continue my journey.”

In the “Young Photographer 15-18 Years” category, the winner was the American Isabella Smith for the photos of the changing of the guard of the Euzones at the monument of the Unknown Soldier.

In May, the winning photographs will be exhibited at an outdoor exhibition at the Royal Photographic Society and Martin Parr Foundation, Bristol, along with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Food Photographer of the Year awards.
