‘A unknown so far, pretendThe deputy mayor of the Municipality of Agios Vassiliou Rethymnon tried to convince citizens that they should immediately pay a false amount owed to the Municipality into a specific personal bank account.

The municipality, after a complaint, issued a statement that it has nothing to do with it and that it is about phone scam.

As he clarifies, the municipal services they communicate with the citizens on matters concerning their debts through postal letters in which the payment methods are mentioned and under no circumstances are instructions given over the phone on matters of debts or bank transactions. Also responsible for matters of a financial nature is the financial department of the Municipality.

The announcement of the municipality:

“We call on citizens to be careful careful on phone calls, messages or emails they receive as scam attempts are now a daily occurrence. Be especially wary when people try to convince them to pay money into bank accounts, under any pretense and avoid disclosing personal information to third parties (bank account numbers, PIN Numbers, credit card numbers, ATM card information, codes verification of credit cards, etc.)”.
