The large humanitarian mission for the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria left the Peace and Friendship Stadium for Raidesto on the morning of Kyriaki with 50 vehicles of the Region of Attica and EDSNA.

The humanitarian aid intended to meet the needs of the earthquake victims in Turkey, exceeds 110 tons and includes more than 20,000 blankets, 7.5 tons of medicines, 5 tons of medical equipment, baby diapers, personal hygiene items, etc. The humanitarian aid was collected by the joint action of ALL TOGETHER WE CAN, the Region of Attica and all the Municipalities of Attica

The mission is expected to go through the Greek-Turkish border on Monday morning and is destined for the material collection warehouses in Raidesto (Tekirdag).

On the occasion of the humanitarian aid mission, the regional governor of Attica, Giorgos Patoulis, emphasized, among other things: “Today, a large humanitarian aid started here from the Peace and Friendship stadium. A humanitarian aid which is the result of the love and solidarity of our fellow citizens. The executives of the Region, the Municipalities, KEDE, PEDA and “Together We Can”, with the contribution of volunteers, contributed to this first big mission with the 50 vehicles of the Region and EDSNA promoting the first large part of the humanitarian aid concentrated where our fellow human beings need it. When there is a need, there are no borders. Solidarity and humanity have no borders. At this moment the Turkish people are suffering and we are on their side with all our strength. Today, more than 110 tons of basic necessities, 20,000 blankets, 7.5 tons of medicines, 5 tons of sanitary materials and basic necessities for children are being sent. We practically express our solidarity and our love to the people of Turkey, to whom we will continue to stand by in every possible way.”

For his part, the Turkish Ambassador in Athens Tsagatai Ersiyes said: “In Turkey we have a saying: “The friend in need appears” and from the first moment the Greek people showed their solidarity towards us. We are truly grateful. We thank the Greek people for their help. An aid collected by the Region, municipalities and volunteer groups. I sincerely thank everyone who participated in this effort, mayors, municipal councilors, local authorities and the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I also thank every other ministry that participated in this valuable effort. These are difficult times for Turkey and we are really receiving help that we will never forget and of course I would like to thank everyone for their help and emphasize again that we are grateful to everyone.”
