The case of Erietta (Marietta) Kotoulis, the ballerina who in October 2002 and at the age of 70 disappeared from the Amaliapoli Almyrou and since then, 21 years later, her fate is unknown.

In his dock accused sits a 67-year-old businessman from Magnesia, who is referred for manslaughter in a calm state of mind. A charge for which in April 2022 he was even found guilty by the majority, by the Larissa Joint Jury.

The Court imposed 15 years imprisonmentwith the appeal having a suspensive character, as a result of which he remains free until the case is finalized at the Larisa Joint Court of Appeal.

This is a rare case in the judicial annals, as a defendant is found guilty of murder without the ballerina’s body having been found to date, with the 67-year-old (s.s. from other courts) having, irrevocably, found guilty for moral complicity in forgery and fraud on the occasion of the sale of part of the real estate of the well-to-do ballerina.

“I have no relation” stressed yesterday the 67-year-old, summoned by the president of the MOE and at the start of the hearing to declare his position against the accusation, which he refused, characteristically noting that “something like this could never have crossed anyone’s mind…”.

First witness the ballerina’s half-sister testified, noting that she herself did declaration of disappearance of Marieta Kotoulis in A.T. Almyrou on June 24, 2003, the day a forged document was filed in the Forestry Office of the area (s.s. it concerns the case of the sale of the property). “I have a right to know where he is. Where is she dead, where is she thrown…” she emphasized with tears in her eyes half brotherthe.

In yesterday’s context, they filed several more witnesses (lawyer, notary, SDOE and DOU employees, police officer and relatives), referring to various aspects of the case, including the revocation of a power of attorney to the defendant, but also the submission of a supplementary income statement filed in 2003 with the Tax Office when the ballerina had disappeared since 2002. The Larissa MOE adjourned yesterday and will resume on March 30 with the statements of 7 more witnesses.
