No biscuits or crackers. The cookie is more like a cake, due to the ingredients it takes in the recipe and how it is prepared. Butter, sugar, egg, wheat flour and yeast are the base to create the dough, taken to the oven to be baked.
Studies on the origin of dessert date back to the Middle Ages and help reinforce this idea. The cookie, a small portion of dough in a round shape, would have emerged as a way to test the temperature of the oven before baking a cake.

Centuries later, the recipe was improved, gained chocolate drops and became popular in the United States from the 1930s. Over there, cookies would be the equivalent of what a brigadeiro is in Brazil.
Around here, the sweet is starting to gain ground, in a movement that has intensified with the opening of new places dedicated to the delicacy and with the expansion of specialized chains in recent years.
This is the case of Ooey Cookie, which gained a physical address in December last year in Santa CecÃlia, in the central region of the city. The owner, Thiago Jun, Vecks, has been producing the candy since 2016 on demand, with sales announced on the internet. Orders grew so much that he decided to open his own store.
In January of this year, Cookie Stories from Curitiba landed in Pinheiros. American Cookies from Brasilia has opened six units in Greater São Paulo since October 2021. In all, the chain has 51 stores in the country, including franchises.
In common, these businesses usually started with the same story: the founders are people passionate about cookies who were not satisfied with the sweets they tasted. And, after tests in search of the ideal recipe, they opened their own brand.
This results in a range of delicacy varieties, from thinner to taller, from crunchy to stuffed. Discover ten options to try in São Paulo below.
