Position on the decision of the Special Court on Nikos Pappa took the Union of Private Television Stations of National Scope (EITISEE).

“Today’s unanimous conviction by the Special Court of the former minister Nikos Pappas for the crime of breach of duty, based on the law on the responsibility of ministers, for the case of the competition for television licenses in 2016, constitutes an official and institutional confirmation of the correctness of the expressed positions of EITISEE, on the competition for television licenses for the year 2016” emphasized in the announcement.

“We remind you that EITISEE, with a sense of responsibility and absolute respect for institutional legitimacy, had denounced in the most categorical way the procedures followed during the above competition, as unconstitutional and brutally offensive to the Principles of Freedom of Press, Freedom of Expression and of the Update in the electronic press” is emphasized.

The maximum penalty provided by law, two years in prison, suspended for three years, the Special Court earlier imposed on the former minister Nikos Pappawhile Christos Kalogritsa was fined five thousand euros, while he rejected the request of his advocates for the recognition of mitigating circumstances.
